Having been beaten 0 -12 by Wigan St Patricks two weeks ago, the Cobras were eager to get things sorted.
We opted to go to Greggs for a better surface, so this delayed the kick off slightly.
Both teams were up for this match with it being a NWC Cup match.
Pats kicked off first and it was caught on the full and returned well, initially the Cobras drove hard through the centre of the field, and were in a good attacking position but knocked on about 15 meters out.
Pats drove the ball back well and were close to scoring but the player was tackled well and he lost the ball which was picked up and ran out by the Cobras. Pats got the ball back about halfway down the pitch and returned it to within a few meters of the Cobras line and a bit of slack defending allowed them to score after just 5 minutes. Pats missed the conversion.
Pats kick to us and some slow reactions allowed the ball to go into touch and gave them the advantage, which they did not take advantage of. The Cobras we not as good at tackling as they should have been and allowed far too many offloads once the player had been stopped going forward.
A penalty for the Cobras about 20 meters out gave them a platform for a good scoring chance, and another penalty for offside gave them a great chance only a few meters out and after a couple of drives at the line we managed to get a dummy from the acting half back and we were over the whitewash with 10:30 on the clock. We missed the kick so the score was 4-4. The Cobras were denied a try just before half time.
Second half there was a bit more of the same end to end rugby, and Pats managed to get over the line again from a penalty for a high tackle, which was also converted 4 – 10.
The Cobras fought hard to come back with another try but did not quite get there.
