Leigh East o Crosfields 24

Crosfields U14s gave another superb effort with their third shutout of the season, with only 22 points let in all season the lads are really upping there defensive efforts and will be hoping to carry this into this weeks cup competition and hopefully progress to the next round

Leigh East 0 Crosfields 24

Crosfields maintained their 100% record start to the season with an away win at nearby neighbours Leigh East on the all impressive 3g pitch.

A few early nerves and a quite strong opponent seemed as though it was going to be a real arm wrestle as most of the first half was played in Crosfields half ,as a determined Leigh side put in a good effort to test a well shuffled Crosfields side missing a number of key players.

Crosfield though excelled themselves with awsome defence and some bone rattling tackles that made a few of the parents shudder on the sidelines.Alex “shady” Newton putting in a fine display in attack and defence matched with the no nonsense running of Josh”the tank”Swift, Phillip”spice boy” Johnson and Sean”psycho”Nichols.

Josh Hensey with a good display of tackling and kick return, aided by David “one boot”Winders having a good all round game.A strong attacking play on the back of great defence allowed Will “tiny” Wier to stride through the Leigh defence and create great yards down field , quick play the ball and good hands enabled Josh Swift to crash through for the first try of the game.Josh Hensey adding the extras.

Strong play from Luke Cunningham,Connor Messenger and Chris Joynson gave Crosfields yards and the forwards a breather with good play from Jack Callaghan at hooker and a gritty game from Jack O Neil Crosfields soon added to their tally with Will Wier ghosting in for a well deserved try.Conversion unsuccessful.

Danny”el diablo”Garcia proving that he is a real handful both in attack and defence covering plenty of the pitch with his mazy runs and back tracking defence, and a really strong game from Robson “mr reliable” Boyne with a good kick return game and solid defence .

Quick play the ball from Jack Callaghan to Connor Messenger saw the ball move across the pitch through quick hands over to Ben “big guns” Steele to follow in his fathers lightning footsteps down the wing to glide in for a great team effort try.Conversion unsuccessful.

HALF TIME Leigh East 0- Crosfields 14.

Crosfields ran the changes in the second half with the impressive Jack “digger” Dakin running around like a man possessed, taking big hits and also handing them out! and Mike”rubber neck”Ryder who bounced back up as though nothing had happened to him when he was almost used as a human pogo stick after some strong plays down the wing.

Sean Nichols hammer throw on the oncoming attacker from i think five yards from touch to three yards in touch was a cracker which lifted the team and the imense travelling supporters.

Darien”gnasher from beano” Dean for his never give up defence despite being dragged five yards on the back of a Leigh players shorts. Crosfields was soon ahead by another score after good forward work by the pack driving up field with quick play the balls and a strong push saw a crossfield kick from Ben Steele saw Josh Hensey leap like a salmon to catch the oncoming ball and touch down in the corner.

conversion unsuccessful.

To be fair though Leigh never gave up and made it tough at times but Crosfields fitness and team spirit get the better of their opponents and a cheeky Sam”mighty atom” Bennett scored straight from the play the ball from close to opponents line to crash in low for a deserved try on the back of a tired defence.Robson Boyne adding the extras.

A five match unbeaten run which sees you only conceding 22 points in all five games is truly remarkable and a credit to you all.

U14 Langworthy V Crosfields

Posted by saintlee On September - 26 - 2009 Comments Off

U13 scrum Vs St Esteve XIIICrosfields travelled to Salford to play a Langworthy team in great form having beat Moorfields and destroyed Leigh East the week before with a 62 point scoreline many have tipped them to be up there fighting for the honours at the end of the year we

The game started well with some dominant tackling and Will Wier forced an early Scrum, straight from this with some trademark handling skills Josh Hensey found himself in space getting before being tackled short of the line but a direct run and quick play the ball by Chris Jones gave Mike Rider room on the outside to score in the corner, conversion was missed by Kane Ditchfield

Langworthy went short from the kickoff which gave Crosfields good field position from the off, Prop Sean Nicol and back row and  Rob Boyne then gave the team the platform they needed with strong carries and quick play the balls before a quick shift of the ball saw Kane Ditchfield place a pin point kick straight from the training paddock kick into the hands of Widnes flyer David Winders to touchdown in the opposite corner, conversion was missed by Robson Boyne

Feeling confident  Crosfields started to expand their game with a great win against the head at the scrum led by the ever impressive Luke Cunningham and stand in pivot Jack Callaghan and Ryan Smith started to pull the strings directing the team around when scrum half Ryan Smith found a rampaging Phil Johnson on a short ball to charge under the sticks to score conversion was scored by Kane Ditchfield

A String of uncharacteristic errors and a number of wasted opportunities began to give Langworthy some hope, which was soon dashed with the immense defensive efforts of the entire Crosfields outfit, Will Wier,Connor Messenger and Kane Ditchfield in particular with some bone crunching shots managing to keep out Langworthy

HT Langworthy Reds 0 Crosfields 14

Second half started with a bang after only two tackles Sam Bennetts shot rebounding high and caught the Reds Loose Forward in the face, gave the home side an early look at the Crosfields line only for the kicker to go long and a 20m restart for the visitors which was taken quickly by Loose forward Kane Ditchfield and a 30m gain his quick play the ball gave Chris Joynson good yards and Josh Swift added imputus to his strong running style (as if it needs any help) before playing the ball quickly for Ryan Smith to kick diagonally to Kane Ditchfield who ended the set he started with a try which he also converted from the touchline

Straight from the kickoff Crosfields surged forward with good yards from Danny Garcia, Sam Bennet and Jack Oniell before a grubber behind the line saw Josh hensey race through gather and pass to Luke Cunningham only for the referee to rule it forward from an amazing 30m behind(i am constantly impressed with the skills of our officials)

With this decision still fresh in the Crosfields players minds, the home side took advantage of this lack of concentration with a good individual effort to score thier only try which was also converted

The game however was put beyond doubt soon after with a penalty for holding down by the homeside saw the quick thinking of Kane Ditchfiield tap and go on the halfway line raced forward and offload while held by two men to Robson Boyne who was tackled 10m out played the ball in super quick time for Ryan Smith to dance his way over for a try he converted

The game was played in fantastic spirit against a very impressive and extremely physical Salford outfit who did themselves and their coach proud

MOM – 1. Kane Ditchfield 2. Will Wier 3. Phil Johnson
