Cobras U11′s End Season On A High!!!

Crosfields Cobras U11′s 22 Rochdale Mayfield U11′s 10

Crosfield faced their last challenge as under 11′s and they looked up for the battle as the sun shone down.  With a slightly late kick off the game got underway with both teams running the ball in hard.

First on the charge was Josh Little and Callum Southern both looking in good form to make plenty of yards for the team.  With the ball changing pocession Danny Robb was to be denied twice in the left corner with last ditch tackles after great centre play from the unselfish Ben Dixon.  The teams were deadlocked after ten minutes and looked in for a tough battle.

On the next set good running from Sam Martin and players player James Kenny pushed the team forward.  Quick play the ball allowed Callum Talbot to release Alex Tinsley out wide to scorch in for the first score.  With the ball Mayfield ran hard but Kyle brown and Thomas Davis were standing strong.

On the next good running from the impressive Lloyd Halpin and Daniel James couldn’t find the gap and even with Joe Hands pulling the strings at  dummy half the visitors were able to score and level the game.

HT6-6

The second half began with Ben Dixon and Alex Tinsley driving forward and causing problems.  On the next quick hands from Joe Hands released Thomas Davis to cross and score a well worked try.  The game now began to stretch with the heat.  More good defence from top tackler Josh Little and Sam Martin kept Mayfield at bay.

The game was tight and Callum Southern backed by Kyle Brown made yards and then James Kenny bustled onto a bay to score a fantastic barge try with three defenders on his back.  More great cover defence from Daniel James and Llloyd Haplin one on one kept the scores the same.

With the game still in the balance the next try would be vital.  George brailey and Danny Robb ran in hard and then man of the match Callum Talbot spotted a gap and placed a wonderful grubber to the right corner for Lloyd Halpin to score and seal the win.

Today was a great game against two good teams which will teach the TEAM how to handle the hot weather and play for the whole game time.

Cobras U11′s Mauled By The Panthers!!!

Posted by tabs72 On May - 16 - 2010 Comments Off

Chorley Panthers U11′s 18 Crosfields Cobras U11′s 6

The visitors made the trip to Chorley buoyed by the previous results but knew today was going to be a battle against a big Chorley side.  Warm sunshine greeted the players but the wind was to prove difficult for both teams.

The game got underway with Thomas Davis collecting the ball and driving hard at the line.  The team all looked sharp and more good running from Alex Tinsley and George Brailey pushed the Cobras forward. The home sides defence was looking strong and then with the ball in hand they looked to make yards.

Danny Robb and Daniel James took the ball in hard but came up against strong tackles.  The game looked very even at this stage, Josh Little, Joe Hands and James Kenny muscled up in the tackle.  The game had gone nearly 15 minutes scoreless which was a credit to all players defensive abilites.  On the next set Kyle Brown, Callum Southern and Sam Martin all ran hard at the line.  On the last Callum Talbot put in a cross field kick which with one bounce was collected by Thomas Davis to score a good try.

Everyone was playing their part and more tackles from Lloyd Halpin and top tackler George Brailey just couldn’t deny the Panthers who pounced to score on the last play of the first half.  The number 11 barged over to record a good try.

HT6-6

The second half got underway in the same fashion as the first with little drop ball or mistakes just set completion.  The Cobras were really putting theirselves into the tackle against the big forwards.  Joe Hands and Thomas Davis (man of the match and players player) really led the way forward in attack and defence.

Good runs from Callum Southern and Kyle Brown came up short.  On the next set, the home side took one of their chances with the number 1 spotting a gap to jink over and score.  The Panthers looked refreshed now and scored quickly again with the number 11 going in despite good work from Alex Tinsley and Callum Talbot in the tackle.

The Cobras now looked tired and even with good effort from Danny Robb and Daniel James the home side looked to have the upper edge.  As the game went on more tackling from Josh Little and George Brailey ment the scores to remain the same.

The whole TEAM stood up today to a very big and powerful side and can all hold their heads up.  This is another example of every game improves the boys rugby league education.

Cobras U11′s Welcome New Hornets !!!

Posted by tabs72 On May - 16 - 2010 Comments Off

Crosfields Cobras U11′s 34 Irlam Hornets 4

Crosfields welcomed the newly formed under 11′s from Irlam Hornets and were given a fantastic game from a great raw team.  The game started well with both teams using the ball well and good rugby being played.

Good tackling from Lloyd Halpin and George Brailey looked to regain the ball.  On the next set a great run and off load from Kyle Brown sent Callum Talbot racing away to score in the right hand corner.  A good move from Irlam came up short and with the ball back Daniel James and Josh Little both nearly scored stepping well but the Hornets kept buzzing around in the tackle.  Joe Hands and Callum Southern looked yards makers every time they got the ball.

Again with the ball Callum Southern went on one of his runs which I wouldn’t want to be in the way off, charging like a bull he score under the sticks.  More good work in defence from Sam Martin and James Kenny who were both having probably their best games of the season won the ball.  Alex Tinsley charged forward and then quick thinking from Callum Talbot with a show and go extended the score.

HT 16-0

In the second half the Cobras were told to try and let the ball do the work and boy did they listen.  Good drives from Josh Little and players player James Kenny allowed Callum Talbot to complete his hat trick by hitting and spining over the line.

As the game was drawing on the biggest cheer of the day went up as the lively number 5 for Irlam broke the line and score a good try under the sticks.  One person who was not impressed was Joe Hands who now took the game by the scruff of the neck.  Good yards from Kyle Brown and Sam Martin allowed Joe Hands to send Thomas Davis into a gap to score a good try.

On the next set George Brailey and top tackler Callum Talbot won the ball and good runing from Daniel James and Alex Tinsley saw Joe Hands again release man of the match Lloyd Halpin to scorch away to score.  The final play was again to see Josh Little marching the team forward and then you guessed it Joe Hands dummying and going before sending Thomas Davis over for his second of the day.

Great to see such enthusiasm from the new players at Irlam.  The TEAM all did a professional job taday look to be maturing every week.

Cobras U11′s Overpower St Pat’s!!!

Posted by tabs72 On May - 16 - 2010 Comments Off

Crosfields Cobras U11s 32 Wigan St Pats 18

Today was going to be a test for the team with the visitors from Wigan looking to put on a good display.  The game got under way with both teams looking up for the battle.

Good running from James Kenny and Callum Southern got the team moving and looking for the first real chance to score.  Another good drive and off load from Sam Martin allowed Alex Tinsley to open the scoring in the at the corner.  The home side really looked sharp but were about to be hit and hit hard by the visitors.

Good defence from George Brailey and Kyle Brown won the ball back.  Strong running from Josh Little and Danny Robb came up short.  Now with the ball the visitors moved it quick for the number 2 to go over and equal the scores.  After all the good work the home side looked a little shell shocked and were about to be met by another strong run from the number 13 to give pats the lead for the first time.

Lloyd Halpin and Daniel James took the ball on and it looked as though the Cobras were begining to come back.  With the ball again, Pats saw their chance and the impressive number 13 scored again to extend the lead.  Would the Cobras let their heads drop or go back to all the good work they had done in training in the week?.

The time was set for Joe Hands to step upto the plate and a good show and go allowed Callum Talbot to collect a good pass and step his way for a try in the corner.  As the half was drawing to a close Thomas Davis appeared to be everywhere in attack and defence.  With the scores close on the next a great break from Alex Tinsley allowed him to send players player Lloyd ‘disco’ Halpin away who was just caught short of the line.  Quick hands allowed Callum Talbot in to score and level the score at half time.

HT18-18

The game restarted in the balance with both teams up for the tackle.  St Pats were really begining to turn the screw and good defence from Thomas Davis and top tackler Josh Little looked to hold out.  On the next Callum Talbot took the ball on his line and found a gap to race away and give the Cobras the lead again with a full length try for his hat trick.

The home side really looked to push the advantage home and good running from James Kenny and man of the match Callum Southern set up the play.  With the game still evenly poised the next score would be vital.  Daniel James and Kyle Brown looked to drive forward and on the next play a great flowing move saw four players combine to send Josh Little romping away to score from distance.

The visitors still kept coming and good defence from Sam Martin and Danny Robb regined the ball.  As the game was coming to an end Joe Hands and Callum Talbot were pulling the strings and couldn’t be seperated for coaches award.  George Brailey and Lloyd Halpin made yards and to seal the game Alex Tinsley spotted his chance to hit and spin over the line to get a typical centres try.

Today showed what toughness the TEAM has now got mentally, it would have been easy to let heads drop early on.  This was again a fantastic advert for junior rugby, well done all players.

U11′s All Square At The Parkside!!!

Posted by tabs72 On May - 6 - 2010 Comments Off

Golborne Parkside U11′s 22 Crosfields Cobras U11′s 22

A summery day greeted the Cobras as they made the short journey to Golborne.  The visitors looked up for the game which was an early kick off due to te NWC finals.

The match got under way with the home side kicking off and forcing the ball over the deadline which was the first time that had happened this season.  The defence was now to be tested with Lloyd Halpin and Josh Little getting stuck into the tackle. With the ball in hand George Brailey and Callum Southern led the charge.  After a few scrappy sets shared the visitors now took the advantage Joe Hands was pulling the strings and slotted an intelligent grubber kick into the right corner which Alex Tinsley gobbled up to score the first points of the day.

Golborne came again and more tackling from Kyle Brown and James Kenny stopped them dead.  On the next set good drives from Thomas Davis and players player Lloyd Halpin got the team moving.  On the next play Joe Hands got a good pass out to Callum Talbot who drew the line and sent Daniel James over in the left corner to score a good try.

As the half wore on the home side rolled up their sleaves and came back at the Cobras.  Despite good attempted tackles Golborne were able to register two scores and take the lead with the conversions.

HT12-10

The second half began with an excellent kick off from Josh Little which regained pocession.  Joint Men of the match Callum Southern and Daniel James really drove hard at the line but came up short.  Strong defence from Joe Hands and top tackler George Brailey regained the ball.  Good play from Kyle Brown and Alex Tinsley made yards and allowed Callum Talbot to see a gap and chip and collect his own kick to score.

The Cobras really looked in control now and played some good rugby,  James Kenny and Thomas Davis really running hard.  On the next set a drop off pass from Callum Talbot sent Callum Southern racing away and a fantastic off load saw Josh Little hit the gap to score a great try.

As the game drew on the home side scored from close range and the game was set for a grand stand finish.  With four points the difference the call was to ‘put it up your jumpers’ for the Cobras.  Good drives from George Brailey and coaches award winner Alex Tinsley pushed the team forward.  The game now seemed to last forever as the scores remained the same.  On the very last play Golborne broke the line and scored in the corner as the REF blew his whistle.  All that was left was the conversion which was missed and resulted in a draw.

Today was heartbreaking for the TEAM after so much good effort.  This game will stay in the players minds for many reasons and they will talk about ‘that day at Golborne’ which added to their rugby education.

Crosfields U11′s Fail To Oldham!!!

Posted by tabs72 On April - 22 - 2010 Comments Off

Crosfields Cobras U11′s 16 Oldham St Anns 20

A tough game was always to be expected after their had only been one score in the previous meeting.  The weather was warm and the pitch hard ideal for fast moving rugby.

A good start from both teams showed how much quality is in this age group.  Callum Southern and George Brailey drove the ball hard at the line and good defence stopped them.  With the ball Oldham really looked to open up the Cobra’s with passing and despite good attempts from Josh Little and Alex Tinsley the visitors opened the scoring with a try under the sticks.

Would the the home side have an answer ? James Kenny and Ben McWilliam moved the ball forward and a quick play the ball saw Callum Talbot dummy and go into a gap and level the scores.  Oldham came up short in the next set with Daniel James and Lloyd Halpin really getting involved in the tackle.  Driving the ball in was Sam Martin in his best display of the season which later was rewarded with the coaches award.

Moving into the oppositon half with the ball after a bit of swapped sets, the Cobras looked menacing.  Joe Hands was revelling in the hooker roll not making any mistakes and Kyle Brown and man of the match Thomas Davis really moved the ball.  On the last Callum Talbot put a cross field kick in and great anticipation from Danny Robb saw him dive and score a great winger’s try in the right corner.

HT10-4

In the second half a switched on St Anns side collected an interception and raced away only with  good defence from Thomas Davis delayed the score as the defence couldn’t slide quick enough to stop the number 4.  Again the scores were level.  Good running from Daniel James, Danny Robb and James Kenny pushed th team on.

As the game went from end to end their was very few mistakes given the pressure of the scoreline.  Good drives from Callum Southern and Josh Little, joint top tackler for the day, made yards.  On the next play Callum Talbot used his pace and managed to hit and spin his way over the line to score and give the home side a 16-14 lead.

Oldham were now pushing on and Sam Martin, Ben McWilliam and Kyle Brown all bent their backs in the tackle.  A break away resulted in a fantastic try saving tackle from player’s player Lloyd Halpin.  Then came a moment of mystery as the game was allowed to continue after a knock on and with the advantage Oldham were to score.

Today was a fantastic game and no one deserved to lose.  The whole TEAM played a vital part and nobody left the pitch with anything left to give.

Cobra’s U11′s Savaged By The Sharks!!!

Crosfields Cobras U11′s 6 Shevington Sharks 24

The day began with warm sunshine and looked all set to be a really close game given only four points seperated the teams in the game before Christmas with the Cobras successful.

The Sharks got the game underway with a short kick off and the Cobras run hard with Josh Little and George Brailey leading the way.  Good defence kept the Cobras out despite further strong running from Callum Southern and Ben Dixon.  The game was proving to be tight and remained scoreless for the first ten minutes.  It was the Sharks who were to open the scoring capatalising on simple mistakes near the home sides line to score.

Danny Robb and Kyle Brown drove the ball in and the sharks looked beatable.  Again more good runing came from Daniel James backed up by Joe Hands but this cam up short.  On the next play James Kenny and top tackler George Braley pushed the visitors back.  A quick play the ball allowed the nippy number 7 to jink over to extend the lead for the visitors.

The challenge was laid down fron the Cobras and on the next set good runs from Alex Tinsley, Sam Martin and Lloyd Halpin took the game to the visitors.  Callum Talbot spotted the gap and split the line to score a good try from distance to bring the scores closer. On the next play the Sharks were not going to be beat and scored another try from close range.  With the last play a kick over the top was just unable to be gathered in by Lloyd Halpin.

HT 6-14

The game kick off for the second half with Sharks in poccession.  Good tackles from Alex Tinsley and top tackler George Brailey shook the sharks.  More strong runs from Joe Hands and man of the match Callum Southern were making good momentum.   The Sharks defence was holding firm and looked unbreakable’ even Lloyd ‘Disco’ Halpin couldn’t find a way through despite a trademark mazy run.

On the next set the Sharks were able to find the try line despite the efforts of Ben Dixon and Thomas Davis.  The game now became littered with mistakes as the warm weather began to take it’s toll.  Good work at dummy half from Daniel James got Sam Martin and coaches player Joe Hands pushing the team forward.

As the game drew on more good defence from Josh Little and player player Callum Talbot kept the visitors out.  On the next to last set the Sharks crossed again to complete the scoring for the day.

Today was about composure and the TEAM will learn from the experience.  As games get tighter in the future the boys will understand doing the basics right is vital to win games.

Cobra’s U11′s Succeed In Saddleworth !!!

Posted by tabs72 On April - 13 - 2010 Comments Off

Saddleworth Rangers 14 Crosfield Cobras 24

Crosfields made the long journey to Saddleworth wanting to put in a strong performance before the Easter break.  With almost summer sunshine the game looked set for good rugby even given the heavy pitch.

Crosfields took the ball up at the start with Joe Hands and James Kenny leading the way.  Despite good yards made the homeside regained the ball and solid tackling from Josh Little and George Brailey kept the scores level.  Again with the ball the visitors raced forward,  Callum Southern and Sam Martin drove hard.

Saddleworth came again and more tackles from Daniel James and Kyle Brown won the ball.   Alex Tinsley and Danny Robb took the chance to run hard and dent the line.  Quick play the ball allowed Callum Talbot to slip out a pass for Ben Dixon to race over on the left hand side.

Saddleworth were kept at bay again by tackles from Thomas Davis and Kyke Brown.  More strong play gave Joe Hands the chance to set up Ben Dixon to cross for his second of the morning with a good try.  The Rangers were not to be denied and after one of the visitors first mistakes they crossed to complete the first half scoring.

HT6-12

On the start of the second half the Cobras looked ready to race away with the game.  This wasn’t to be with good tackles going in on Sam Martin and Callum Southern to slow the play.  On the second set after a repeat set the team took a chance Callum Talbot and Thomas Davis laid the platform for Josh Little to crash over and score.

With the game looking to be going away the home side doug in and given strong line defence from Alex Tinsley and Danny Robb they couldn’t prevent a barge try from the number 15.  The next score would now be vital.  Both teams gave it their all and top tackler Thomas Davis and players player Daniel James really bent their backs in the tackle.

With the gaps appearing a fantastic barnstorming run from George Brailey, who later got man of the match, came up short of the line.  Quick thinking from Ben Dixon saw him scoot from Dummy half and complete a great hat trick.  More good defence followed and Kyle Brown, Sam Martin and Callum Southern all working hard.

In the last parts of the game Danny Robb, Daniel James and coches player Ben Dixon all made good yards.  With the clock ticking on the last set the home side moved the ball wide and despite strong sliding defence the try was awarding giving the ‘benefit of the doubt’ to the attack to complete the game.

A real end to end affair today and the whole TEAM worked harder in defence but need to run better angles in attack to gain more impact.  Overall a good spectical for junior rugby played in the right spirit.

Leigh East U11′s Triumph at Sports Village!!!

Posted by tabs72 On March - 25 - 2010 Comments Off

Leigh East U11′s 28 Crosfields Cobras U11′s 10

The Cobras arrived at the impressive Leigh Sports Village and were greeted with a brand new relayed pitch to play on.  With both side looking forward to playing some almost summer rugby with the sun in the sky.

The game started with both sides looking strong in defence George Brailey and Daniel James looked from the start to be up for the challenge.  After several sets the game was going from end to end with good kicks from both teams, Joe Hands showing his ability with the boot for the Cobras.  With the game so even great ]defence from Thomas Davis and Lloyd Halpin couldn’t prevent the home side going into the lead in the left corner.

On the next set good drives from Callum Southern and James Kenny drove the ball in but came up short.  With the game in the balance great tackling from Ben Dixon and top tackler for the day ‘workhorse’ Josh Little kept Leigh East at bay.  Again after more even play and good drives from Alex Tinsley and Danny Robb the Cobras gave up pocession.  The lively number 4 saw the chance and dummied his way to a good score.

Two scores behind the visitors could have wilted in the surprising heat.  This was not the case and in the next set Sam Martin and George Brailey took the ball up.  On the next a quick play the ball saw Thomas Davis release Callum Talbot who ran at the line and with a dummy jinked over to score a good try.  Again the home side came on strong Danny Robb and coaches award winner Daniel James muscled up to the tackle.

HT 12-6

With the next score going to vital the Cobras were up for the challenge.  Thomas Davis collected the kick off and drove hard at the opposition.  More strong runs from Alex Tinsley and Sam Martin took the team forward.  With the next set the home side turned the screw and using the big pitch good hands were met by good attempts from Ben Dixon and Danny Robb but to no avail conceeding another score.

The team looked disappointed and with them still trying to regain their composure Leigh East scored agin with the number 4 completing his hat trick.  On the next set Callum Southern, George Brailey drove on and Josh Little made even more hard yard which resulted in Man of the match and player’s player.  With a chance deep in Leigh territory Callum Talbot smelt the chance of a gap and scored under the post.

With the scores at 24-12 was a comeback on the cards ? Unfortunately not.  Again the defence stepped up and Daniel James and James Kenny put tough tackles in.  On the last the home side got a barge try and that would complete the scoring.

Today was a great education for the whole TEAM.  The rugby served up was excellent and fitting for the surrounding, this will be a game in the future that all the players will talk about what they learned that day at the village.

Latchford Unicorns 38 Crosfields Cobras 22

The game had all the makings of a classic, the weather was kind for the short journey to Latchford.  Buoyed by previous results the visitors came full of confidence.

The visitors got the game under way and strong runs from Latchford were met by tough tackling from Josh Little and Thomas Davis with the ball in hand the Cobras pushed on.  Callum Southern, Daniel James and Kyle Brown made good distance and the team were set.  On the next play Callum Talbot ran at te line feeding Alex Tinsley who with quick hands sent Lloyd Halpin over in the left corner.  The advantage was to be short lived and two long range try’s from Latchford gave them the lead.

More silly mistakes cost the visitors and good play allowed the homeside to score a further try on the right wing despite strong attempted tackles from Sam Martin, Joe Hands and Danny Robb.  Ben McWilliam and Ben Dixon drove the ball up but came up short and then there was a forced break with the game with Kyle Brown suffering an injury to his knee, but collect man of the match.  After a further score the vistors heads could have dropped.

On the next set the Cobras got back to doing the basics right and good runs from player’s player Callum Southern and James Kenny got the team going.  Quick dummy half play from Thomas Davis sent Ben Dixon racing over to score on te right hand side.

HT 18-12

The second half started with two more scores for the home side but then the wind changed.  Callum Talbot ran at the line and found a gap to race over and score.  On the next set strong tackles from Josh Little and Joe Hands gained pocession.  More quick play from Lloyd Halpin and Daniel James allowed Joe Hands and Callum Talbot to combine and Ben McWilliam to score a second to bring the scores to 26-22.

Good defence from top tackler for the day Ben Dixon won the ball back.  More running from Danny Robb and Sam Martin almost broke the line.  Coaches award winner Danial James looked to control at dummy half and quickend play up.  The game was tense now and the next score would be vital and it came te way of the homeside who then backed up with another score to complete the day.

Today the players will learn about tight matches and handling the pressure of the occasion.  Several spectators who had no sway to etheir side commented on a fantastic game between two TEAMS played in the rigt spirit.
